I Am Fascinated By Human Behavior

Was I the only one who grew up in the 80s or before who grew up having play dates occasionally? Most my age and older say they never had play dates, just played outside with other kids in the neighborhood. I also spent a lot of time playing outside with neighborhood kids, but I also had play dates with friends who lived further away. One was a child who lived in my neighborhood who Mom always set me up with play dates because her parents worked and she had to be home with a babysitter. Another was the child of one of my mother's friends who lived 10 minutes away.

I had heard of such a thing as a kid back in the 60's, or 70's.
We hung out with kids from school, or the neighbourhood.
I believe that was a creation of the Boomers, and Yuppies.

@chrisCA We didn't call them play dates back then. It was just being invited to a friend's house to play and your mom had to drive you. With one of the girls I always spent the night and of course that had to be arranged. She lived 10 minutes away. The term play date didn't exist until the 90s that I know of.
