I Have No Problem With Interacial Relationships

I've never had a problem with interracial relationships. It's a shame that Muhammad Ali can't say the same thing. Watch the YouTube video and judge for yourself:

Well, 6 years later and YouTube reports that "This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been closed." I find ths rather disturbing. I wonder if his account was terminted because YouTube simply doesn't want anyone to know aout Ali's interviews?

But it was so long ago! He wasn't a racist at that point because everyone was! That's what I'm trying to say! If he'd said it a few months ago, sure fuck him!

@SweetDreamsRubi: He was the World Champion in beating people up. That's no status in my eyes.

Come on, this is like in the fucking 70s. This was the normal opinion, believe it or not! Times have changed, and so have opinions, so cut him some slack. Would you want to be remembered for something you said offhandedly forty years from now?
HatsOnFrogs · 22-25, M
He wasn't racist on his own show sure. I don't know. It just seems a little off to me to be saying 'oh yeah, you know that guy who's achievements and shit you look up to? Slightly racist!'
Glossy · F
It's ok to be against race mixing. Its personal choice.
You're right, HairyBallSack, it's a personal choice to be racist.
SW-User
This is why you should never examine your heroes too closely, ultimately they are all human and have feet of clay!
SW-User
@Hairy - No, that's personal choice... however, advocating that NO-ONE should have inter-racial relations IS racist.
Glossy · F
Since when do we cut racists any slack? And being dead doesn't mean all your beliefs count for nothing.

You are judging a complex man on one snippet of an interview. He wasn't perfect but he deserves to be judged on his whole life rather than one statement.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
Actually that is not my argument at all. You seem to think that one statement defines the person. I take the whole person into account, his life actions. Not just one interview. I happen to know this racist supported financially, timewise and patronage wise charities supporting every race. So, I find it difficult based on one comment in an interview to call him something.
Glossy · F
It was more than one comment and more than one interview. He was pretty adamant and vocal in what he thought of the "white devils".
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
Fine, whatever you want.
HatsOnFrogs · 22-25, M
It's not an excuse! It's just history!

The thing is, he's dead. That sucks. Anyone dying, sucks. It's negative entirely! That's why we focus on their achievements, rather than look back and think 'they were slightly racist you know!' And people think he's great, because of his achievements. That's what they look up to, not his opinion on interracial relationships. People don't even know that.
HatsOnFrogs · 22-25, M
Maybe so. But it's so long ago, and he's dead now, and things are so different, I don't see much point in trying to slander his name with such things. And you might bring up Jimmy saville or someone else as a counterpoint, but this is hardly comparable in terms of scope.
SW-User
Very interesting... Of course, now that he has passed away he can do no wrong, and not a word can be said against him...

And that didn't appear to be an 'off-hand' comment, it seemed to be a deeply held belief.
Glossy · F
Never heard of Paula Deen (I'm in England) so I just Googled her and it looks like I was bang-on with my earlier comment about career damage. Maybe she should have been a boxer and not a cook.
HatsOnFrogs · 22-25, M
No you're totally allowed to say it, and I advocate that right of yours entirely! However, I'm also free to say you're a racist twat. Dish it out, you gotta take it.
SW-User
@Valentine - Well, Mr Parkinson evidently wasn't racist, and he was white and middle-aged... The prime candidate for such an attitude
He wasn't a racist at that point because everyone was!
That's the worst excuse I've ever heard!
Glossy · F
The fact that people don't know it happened is all the more reason for making it more widely known. In spite of what you think, he is not a special exception. Others have been condemned for making a casual racist comment and they've seen their careers spiral down. I'm sorry he's dead, but that's not a reason to forget his obnoxious racial public comments.
He was a Southerner who came from a different generation and was raised during Jim Crow. His attitudes were not unique. How many white Southerners of his generation do you imagine would be okay with it ?
@Glossy You're right, he probably wouldn't have. Trump's been like Teflon, though. Of course, just like you assume people were taken out of context, some of Ali's comments might've been, too.
@bijouxbroussard I listened to the clip you provided. It's pretty simplistic, but a lot of people felt that way in 1971. Loving v. Virginia had been passed in 1967, fairly recently. And Ali was a member of Nation of Islam, who were separatists. That's not an "excuse", it's a fact.

Incidentally, that clip was posted by Deutscher Kreuzritter, a white supremacist (based on his other videos) who captioned the clip: "Muhammad Ali on interracial marriage and couples. White girls who like blacks must watch this video!"

Think he might've had an agenda ? 🤔
Glossy · F
@bijouxbroussard It doesn't really matter how many others "felt that way", that's not an excuse for racism. I watched him being broadcast live on national TV in the UK when Ali was interviewed on the country's most-watched chat show.

Judge for yourself. Here it is.

In his case, it's feet of Cassius Clay.
Haha. I love him. He cracks me up.

Racists are NOT cool.
kdma1l · 46-50, M
nor do I. In fact sometimes the racial difference adds to the relationship. And on a pure physical perspective, I love seeing the colour differences in a racially different couple - the contrast is sexy.
ammoniascrubbertime · 46-50, F
I don't want my child to be full black so I get a European man to have a mixed race child, so I don't have to deal with these God forsaken racists in the country fields of Tennessee.
SweetDreamsRubi · 31-35, F
[c=#800055]COOL[/c]
Glossy · F
He also believed that white people introduced homosexually to the black races. Here he is saying exactly that in an interview...

Glossy · F
Really don't understand how he got away with such hate-filled comments when other public figures have had their careers destroyed with a single ill-judged word.
Glossy · F
This was what he believed and said and the record proves it. Why should we let him off the hook just because he was a famous boxer?
Glossy · F
As far as I'm concerned, the only thing he was ever good at was beating people up, both figuratively and literally. He's no hero.
HatsOnFrogs · 22-25, M
Well, if you're choosing not to have sex with them BECAUSE of their race, yeah that's kinda racist.
SweetDreamsRubi · 31-35, F
[c=#800055]ohhhh you're one of those paula deen supporters arent you? Lol🙄[/c]
