I Love Complements
I received a compliment and it meant the world to me.
It was from an adversary.
I have gone toe to toe with this man because he doesn't always speak the "truth". I work with our sales dept and they are not black and white. Sometimes this "gray" stuff can get us in trouble.
I recently attended a conference and he was a guest speaker. I have a license which requires I take classes. I took his class. I think he was intimidated by me. He asked me point blank (in front of the entire room) why I was not asking questions and had he shut me down.
NOPE. I am not shut downable. I looked at him and said "I am trying to be respectable". The class was awful but I got the credits. I also salvaged my dignity by not challenging him. Another lady next to me slammed him.
My boss and I were having dinner with the marketing reps a couple of weeks ago. Apparently, this sales gentleman told the senior VP of a company I work with that I was very smart. That filtered down to the marketing rep and to my boss.
I would rather be considered very smart any day. This compliment; however, gave me credibility and respect. I consider that much more valuable than someone saying I am pretty.
