I Would Love to Be On Top of a Mountain Right Now

No title (new 11/24/16)

Within the barren landscape
Amongst the frozen rock and ice
I find a certain sense of peace
A spice of life
To be precise
If only by the slice

Staring at the star filled sky
From within my warm cocoon
I watch the wind and air
No thought impugned
The bluer moon
Sanity's saloon

To wake upon the break of day
The sun reflecting in my eye
Blinded by the sounded silence
Cares gone bye
Like birds that fly
Never-ending sighs

On a routine winter overnight hike in the white mountains, my backpack weighs about 52 pounds. I don't carry a tent anymore. I prefer to sleep in my -20° down bag with a waterproof bivvy sack
