I Had a Dog

The Day My Dog Talked!
Our family pet was a little apricot poodle named Poochini. He was affectionate and loving, and seemed to enjoy his new home after we adopted him from the local shelter. He was able to make his wants known, such as needing to eat or go outside.
My three girls, of course, always called me Mom. So Poochini guessed correctly that this was my name.
One day Poochini wanted a drink of water, but his water dish was empty. I was in the kitchen talking with my daughters in a very involved conversation. Poochini grabbed his water dish in his teeth and carried it to the sink, where he knew the water came from. But my girls and I were still discussing something that must have been important at the time, although now I can't recall thr subject.
That's when Poochini decided to call my attention to his plight.
He sat down, placed his dish on the floor, and looked me straight in the eye and said, very distinctly,
"Mmmmomm!"
The girls and I stopped talking and looked at Poochini in disbelief.
Jennifer exclaimed, "Poochini! You can talk!" Jessica and Renee gathered around the little poodle and gave him a series of loving hugs. "You said MOM!" they laughed.
I filled Poochini's dish with fresh water and placed it back on his little placemat beside his food dish. Poochini broke away from the fuss my girls were making over him, and began to drink.
Poochini died in 2011, and the family was devastated. We all miss him very much. I admit that was the only time he ever called me Mom, but I guess he didn't need to call my attention after that.

Nice story, that was a smart dog.

When I had my cat I had two dreams where he spoke to me in English but I don't recall the conversation.

That is the closest I have ever had an animal speak to me.

I have even tried coercing them at Midnight on Christmas Eve but it didn't work.
Maybe it only works in Bethlehem.

@DallasCowboysFan: I tried that with my horse Horace on Christmas Eve. Turned out to be a fantasy.
I sometimes spoke to Poochini in Arabic and he understood me. The girls thought that was hilarious.
Nice! Very touching.

@JoBlak: Then you may want to read "The Animals Talk at Christmas." I posted that about a year ago.
