And my puppy is inside scared and upset. Can't find a locksmith.

Hinges on your side or the other? Can you pop the pins out? Is there a crack near the latch big enough for a butter knife to fit through? You can press the latch in with a knife. Or 3ed option if there is no crack but there is trim work on the frame, you can take off the trim with a flat head and a hammer, then you will be able to insert a butter knife and press the latch.
Door frames often look solid because of paint but it's highly probable there's a piece of trim you can tale off gently and reattach with a hammer..
