I When I Was A Kid We Actually Went Outside And Played

Until probably the age of 10 my imagination, my dog, and (luckily) safe surroundings could keep me entertained for a few hours at a time. I had no siblings near my age. I remember enjoying being left alone with my thoughts in the backyard. There was a tree swing, sand box, a variety of small toys in a shed, and a grape arbor which I pretended was my own little house. There were leaves to rake into piles for jumping in the fall and snow for forts and snowmen in the winter. When friends came over or I went to their homes, one day of sharing our yards, toys, and control of activities seemed to be more than enough, lol. As I type this, I realize they must have enjoyed being alone in their yards as much as I did in mine.
Somewhere between childhood and teen years the backyard became a lot less interesting. My bicycle could take me to my friends' homes and theirs to mine. Sometimes we would ride for fun but playing outside eventually gave way to other teen socializing. Thankfully, my family always enjoyed outdoor activities such as gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, golf, and outdoor parties. They knew it is important for people to play outside at all ages. It was limited in my late teen years but I have enjoyed it as much as an adult as I did when I was a child.
Now go outside and play!

Agree 100%. Best thing for kids today would be to put away the electronics and go outside to play. Make things up, use your imagination, that's what we did. It helps build a creative mind. I miss those days.

Oh yes. We played out all the time. And walked there and back to the park!
