I Think You Are Delusional

Why are so many people delusional?

delusional
dɪˈluːʒ(ə)n(ə)l/
adjective
adjective: delusional

characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder.
"hospitalization for schizophrenia and delusional paranoia"

I wonder what large group of people could be labelled as delusuional, if we really thought about it and put aside the social niceties....?

Delusion is a natural humn characteristic. We're typically too vulnerable to have too much truth at once. So, the subconscious hides the damaging stuff from us, as a means to maintain emotional stability. Also, the thing about delusions is, youre not aware theyre delusions. So you could have a great many, yourself.

Deep.

So would the reality of life being nothing more than "birth, life, death" be considered enough to send people in to a delusional state in your opinion?

@sleepyhead: I would imagine so. More than that, a primary motivator for delusion forming is the innate human need for things to "make sense". Justifying the pain and suffering in the world is a big delusion-maker.

@ColdPenguin: A bit like believing in something that doesn't exist just to form some sort of crutch in order to cope with life?

@sleepyhead: Exactly.
