I Am A Skunkseeker
Last night I felt like causing a scene. I hadn't been sprayed by a skunk since April, which is too damn long. I went looking a bunch of times this summer, and just never found one. Well, that's not entirely true; I found ONE but I was out walking with a friend at the time, and tried my very best to convince her (under the guise of a dare - I told her I'd been sprayed before but left out the part about it being intentional) to go get sprayed, but she was wearing nice clothing and had to work the next day. (I think I may have planted that seed in her head though, so hopefully there's a story there in the future...) But anyway, it had been too long.
I had the house to myself. I put on my skunk-hunting clothes, junky ones I could throw out if I came home smelly. I set out.
I checked all the local haunts, and to my surprise I actually found one!! It was about dusk at this point, and there were people out walking, so I decided to have a little fun. I waited, following the skunk until it walked into a small park area where a couple people were walking around. They all saw the skunk, pointed at it and started walking away... And that was when I struck! I ran straight at it, and it must have been terrified because it whipped its tail up and hosed me down almost immediately. The smell made most people scatter, but others where kind of standing around "WTFing" at what they just saw. One guy braved the smell long enough to stick his camera in my face and ask what I just did, he said he was gonna post it on his instagram so if I find it I'll put a link here.
Anyway, I reeked. It was beautiful. The funny thing is, this sort of thing is an idea that usually terrifies me, but I loved it; it was such a rush. So I decided to take it a bit further... ;P
I had cleanup supplies at home, but I thought it would be more fun to walk, reeking of skunk, into a drugstore to buy cleanup supplies. Sadly there weren't very many customers in at the time, but watching the cashier attempt to be polite when I knew full well how bad I smelled was hilarious.
All in all, fun way to end the summer. I don't think I'll ever do anything this daring again though...
