I Am Lost
You thought you found me didn’t you?
What did you find though?
It’s not exactly a hidden treasure.
There wasn’t a map for a reason.
And didn’t your parents tell you not to dig in the dirt with your hands?
Look now you’ve grazed you’re knuckles.
Scarred by your endeavour to unearth me.
Like you could reach me?
Like you could lift me from my grave.
I’m lost.
Lost cause, lost case.
Listen there’s a little bird in the tree over the hill.
It found me too with its sweet little chirrup.
Oh how I want to drown in its sound.
I’m drifting, eyes glazed as you finally pull me out of the hole.
My soul has already chosen to fly with the bird song.
Limp, heavy and unwilling. Will you drag my body out of the forest? Do you think you know a home for it?!
Or will you believe me when I stab you hard in the chest and screech.
‘Let me die’
