Yes, I see it like putting rings on each other. Wedding rings of course symbolize commitment to each other, but they can too easily be slipped off, lost, or temporarily hidden. But if you relax and enjoy the bliss of the relationship enough to let each put a ring of fat around each other's waistlines, that's pretty much guaranteed to stay.
