I Remember Rotary Dial Telephones

And I even remember before that when you had to get through to the exchange and get a number. How times change!

I have a functioning rotary phone, and my local telecom still handles pulse dialing. I picked up a disassembled rotary phone a couple of years ago and rebuilt it just for the fun of it, and when I plugged it in, everything worked including the dialing. My kids and their friends thought it was great, because none of them had ever used a rotary dial. They kept taking turns calling each other’s cell phones from my rotary. If you want some entertainment, watch a bunch of millennials trying to work a rotary dial.

That’s exactly what mine looks like. If you flip it over, you should see a date (probably month and year) stamped into the metal. Mine is from August 1965 and works like a champ. @MasterLee

Oh what memories indeed!

Really? Going via the exchange. Now that I cannot remember. I do remember how long it took to wait while dial rotated back to its start position; it was murder waiting after dialling 0, from what I recall.

Have you noticed how people still sometimes say they will just dial the number. When the hell did we last DIAL on a telephone

Me to. Our number was 56 and the grocery was #1.🙂
