I Went Rock Climbing

I once went rock climbing, and I never thought it would happen. It all began when I was a track athlete for my local high school team. Distance runners would usually split up into groups and just run within a several mile radius of the school. I ended up joining a group with several of the seniors, because some of them also did short-distance events like myself and didn't like running for too long. Anyways, I ended up jogging with them, and that excitement would soon begin.

We reached the main road in front of the school, jogged for about a mile, and then started jogging next to a backroad. However, this backroad was literally between two hills. Within the next minute or so, our group decided we would climb up the steep hillside.

So we began the climb, it was easy at first, but around halfway up it became steep enough that we changed from a standing position to a crawling position against the hillside. A few times someone would accidentally hit a rock and it would end up bouncing and rolling down the hill. One of those rocks almost grazed me against the cheek, and I couldn't help myself but look down to see how far up we were. I really shouldn't have looked, because now I was feeling a little bit panicked.

Before I knew it we reached the top, and I think our group was satisfied with the climb. One of the girls didn't like the idea that the climb was perilous and dangerous. I didn't like it either, but I exercised caution so I wasn't as concerned. I was thinking that was the last time we'd do that.

However, our group had different ideas. We safely jogged down back to the bottom, but we ended up climbing up the OTHER hill. There was the safe climb and the longer, slightly more treacherous climb. I obviously went with the short one, as did a few others, and two others went for the riskier climb. Thankfully nothing bad happened and we all made it to the top, and soon we found ourselves at the local graveyard. Somehow. Yeah, don't ask me why they put a graveyard here.

Since we were at a graveyard, we could just safely jog down the road. At this point, it was time to head back to the school, and I was grateful that nothing bad happened. However, during the climbs I felt more excited than I've ever felt during any jogging routine I've ever done. It felt like the biggest adventure ever, and I'd like to do something like it more often if it didn't feel so dangerous.
