If everything was defined and only work was to be done then it wouldn't have taken long.
But because in work for research paper, applying your head for more than 4 hours per day just becomes unsustainable so in terms of hours put on actual work it doesn't take long but it takes a lot of random unstructured day dreaming and thinking to arrive at the right solutions which takes up most of the time.
So yeah 2 weeks is fine.
