I Don't Get It

There are eight gas pumps in the parking lot and I'm occupying one of them, the other seven pumps are free and clear. Why does a driver pull up behind me to wait for MY pump...they're all the same.
There's half a dozen self checkouts I'm using one and the other five are free and clear. Why does a shopper (with only one item for fast checkout bragging rights I suppose) decide to impatiently wait behind me when I have a bunch of stuff on the belt, no I'm not in the express line either.

First, I feel you. I suffer from this syndrome so badly, I apologize to the clerk when I first step up to the counter.

"Don't take it personal, but everyone in this store is going to show up to check out within the next 45 seconds, and they are going to get into this line, right behind me. It's nothing you did. It's nothing I did. It's just the way my life works for some reason. The second I get into a line, everyone else gets into it, too. I'm sorry that I am about to put you through this."

wow, my experience is, as soon as I get in a checkout line, it becomes the slowest line in the history of checkout lines
