I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

Archaeologists have found a tower of human skulls belonging to people sacrified by the Aztecs, including children

How could such a small army like Cortes' conquer a huge empire. Because they were helped by other local peoples in the area who were oppressed by the Aztecs.

Violence, cruelty, slavery, are not a monopoly of white and western people. People of all races and from different places have looted and slaughtered in history. What is peculiar from westerners (not all of them, thankfully) is their self-hate and self-inflicted feeling of guilt for all the evil of the world.

Aztecs were defeated because Cortes gathered all the their enemies and used them. Also lots of the Aztecs were to busy dying from small pox to fight back. Afterwards Cortes killed those that he used. Really smart on his part. Did you know when him and his men landed he had his ship sunk. He did this in case they failed so that the Indians couldnt use them and to show his men that there was no going back.

@Cierzo Do you think anyone was confused about what the Aztecs were? Even Mel Gibson got it right. Religious superstition also played a major role in Cortés' victories, as the Aztec Emperor mistook him for a God, based on Aztec tradition.

@Northwest When I see the word 'genocide' used so easily, and and some people considering the west as the sole evil force in the world, I am not sure everybody knows what the Aztecs were

@Cierzo ok, the Aztecs, a culture that vanished more than 400 years ago, committed ritual killings.

Cortes and his allies, killed about a half million natives.

The two events were concurrent.

I am not sure why you think that people think that the West is the only culprit, but any discussion involving more recent times, is not going to reference people who disappeared centuries ago.

You are correct.

@Cierzo Yes, I thought the same when I read your post: does this really need to be pointed out? Apparently it does.
Cierzo · M
@Mugin16 In a world with common sense it would not, but...
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@Cierzo Yes, common sense is not very common anymore.

that guilt is a big step moving forward in humanity and earns the highest respect.
