I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

There are disfunctional families and abusing parents, but I will always support family.

There are inconsiderate and abusing teachers, but I will always support education.

There are pedophile priests, but I will always support Catholic Church.

There are bloodsheds and conquers my country did, but I always support my country.

Nobody is perfect, and every institution has its rotten apples, but also thousands of good people whose performance never gets headlines in our scavenging media.
Institutions have existed during centuries for a reason.

Bad apples there will always be. And I choose to send the boy to a Catholic school because I believe the values of the ancient missionary are a bulwark against the competitive times we live in today. The paedophiles should be dealt with severely, both for the deeds they have done and for tarnishing the reputation of Catholicism. But at the end of the day, the church is an institution of God and we must respect it.

@novembermoon Exactly. Punish them severely, expel them from an institution they are harming, and they do not deserve to belong to.

But if family, school, church...have existed for centuries, it shows people need them, and nothing better has been found to fill that need. So they deserve some respect, instead of the vanity and ignorance of those who have lived 20 or 30 years on this planet and think they know better than dozens of past generations.

I’m surprised at some of the negative responses here. What you state is simply how we all believe in those things we believe in. Nothing is perfect as man is not perfect. We work to improve on these things while respecting the integrity of the purpose.

I see what you’re saying but when it comes to the Church things are a lot more complex. These scandals aren’t new, they’ve been going on for centuries. The only difference now is that the abuses have become universal news. The actual abuse is a huge problem by itself, but the fact that majority of the abuses have been covered up to save face is a major fault of the church. Church as we know it today is a manmade institution. All manmade insituitons are subject to fault and corruption. You don’t need the church or have to support the church to believe in God.

That’s not controversial, it’s just ignorant and naive. If you turn a blind eye to corruption and wrong doings within different institutions on the basis of optimism and what you want to believe, eventually they’re gonna fall apart....but I envy that you’ve never had experiences where you can feel empathy or perspective for the people suffering under those small “bad apples”.

Which empathy are you showing to those who have searched for shelter in the Catholic church for 20 centuries (that's a bit longer than the time pedophilia scandals are going on). I share your point. Going against a while corpus only bc there are some ritten apples or there are moments when they don’t serve to citizens as they need is very unfair.
I confess that I usually make this unfair generalizations with politicians. Yes, I do.

I agree, we need families and teachers to learn from. Wars and churches teach us as well. In the long run it's all about choices and we are all free to pick and chose how we want to live. 🌎️
