I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

Just because you go to college doesn't mean you will be guaranteed anything after you graduate. More often than not there isn't a magical career opportunity waiting for you once you get your degree. Hell I graduated a long ass time ago and am still trying to make something happen.

You most likely will get stuck working some shit job you hate to pay down your student loans while frustrating yourself to death trying to land something in what you studied. You'll probably be making min wage at McDonalds like I did when I graduated because I couldn't get anything else and my time was ticking down to find a job to pay my loans back. Granted I've moved on from McDonalds a few years ago and have something a lot better paying but it's still miserable and not what I wanted.

Unless you know someone or are some fantastic whiz kid you will probably have to do what I did. What loads of people have done or are doing. I suggest everyone just lower their expectations after graduation or else you will find yourself losing all hope.

@kate21 I feel like college and life is what you make it some people get discouraged or frustrated and give up I won't give up

@kate21 Claps for you.

If I may ask, what was your field of study?
har7070 · 51-55, M
@TheSacredOne please don't view my comment as a personal attack, but I think that in your particular case the problem is in the low market demand for your chosen profession.
You can't blame college for that.
I know kids who can do (and did) professional technical writing out of high school, and those are the people you have to compete against on the job market.
Would it be possible for you to go back to school and try to get a degree in a more marketable field?
If I'm not mistaken, you can get an MS in 2 years, and your current loan payments can be postponed until you graduate.
A PhD study could be another option, you can study for free and even get a stipend, but it takes much longer.

@har7070 No way I'm not adding on anymore debt and def8nately not at my age.
har7070 · 51-55, M
@TheSacredOne I can understand that. Sorry for the unsolicited advice
silentwriter180 · 51-55, F
Well that's encouraging
TheSacredOne · 36-40, M
@silentwriter180 Someone has to tell it like it is. I might as well step up to the plate.

I think trade schools are awesome.
What did you study?
TheSacredOne · 36-40, M
@GoldButterfly technical writing.

I somewhat agree with you but it sounds like you just have a pessimistic view of college because of your experience.

I have heard a lot about how people who don't go to college do just fine while those who do end up in debt I heard the reason is because of skill that's why I am trying to get as much as skills as I can and network a lot.

You can't just put your degree down and expect a job to hire you.
TheSacredOne · 36-40, M
@Chickie Sure does seem that those who don't go do better off in the long run. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to scream or worse due to all the debt I have among other bills I have to pay. Not enough cash to cover it all.
