I Hate a Co-worker

Okay, so I really didn't want my first post on this website to be about my G-d awful co-worker but she's been stuck on my mind all day because I despise her so much more than you can imagine. So this lady is ancient- therefore I will call her Lady Ancient. She looks just like the wicked witch from Hansel and Gretel with hair barely on her head, stick thin body, and hoarse voice. Basically, she's what I hope no one grows up to be like when you get to be old.

It's not her looks that set me on edge with her. I work at a an office with her where we each have our share of clients. She always embarrasses me in front of clients by yelling at me when I'm doing something wrong or ordering me around. I normally don't want to cause a scene that could make us lose business because then I'll feel guilty. But I want to be able to stand up to her and tell her to knock it off in a way that makes me look like the good guy in front of the clients.

Want to hear a story that will give you goosebumps? Well, here's one. I got in a new client that walked in without an appointment like a lot of new clients do. She came fifteen minutes before closing. Lady Ancient likes to leave the place on time and stay not a minute later. So I was taking awhile with this new client and weren't done until 45 minutes later and Lady Ancient walks into my office asking if we're almost done. I told her we were and then reminds me what time we close on that day like I had no idea. I told her again that we're almost done and I'm not going to rush my appointment with her. So she left. Then my client looked at me with such hatred and a face so red. She picked up her purse and left all because of what Lady Ancient said to her. I begged her not to leave but she wouldn't listen.

I was raging mad. I ordered Lady Ancient to go back out there and apologize to her. She tried to but it did no good. Then she walked back in and gave a simple shrug. I was 100% furious with her that she made my client leave in tears and didn't apologize to me for it. She had no remorse whatsoever for what she did to me. I screamed at her that she made me lose my client and all she had to say back was a lecture about how wrong I was for screaming at her and that we're supposed to be a "team." I stormed out screaming at her that she was wrong. I was so distraught. No one has ever made me feel that way at work before. I called my boss and told her everything. Even though she was on my side, she didn't suspend her or fire her. All she did was tell her never to talk to my clients again in the middle of an appointment. She just said to her "Fine, fine, fine!" I'm not going to take her word for it. The problem is that this old lady has been working there for so long that she feels she can run the place. But my boss doesn't do anything about it. And the heads of the company know about her too but don't do anything because all of the clients want her so she brings in the money.

I'm really scared about my future at this company because as much as I love my job, I can't stand Lady Ancient. I'm scared every shift I have with her in fear she'll make me lose someone else. I feel like treating this like a baseball game. So far it's one strike. Once it's three strikes, I'm either out or I'm speaking to someone in higher power than my boss. The problem is that everyone is so scared of Lady Ancient. It's pathetic really that no one can stand up to this woman. I want to be strong and do my job. There are just moments I wish I could go back in time to stop the events that occurred. That when she yells at me in front of clients or when I'm on the phone, that I can just tell her to knock it off and that it'll be enough. But the scariest people out there are the ones that are incapable of change.

It would be helpful, and beneficial, for you to document anything Lady Ancient does that disrupts your job or makes it uncomfortable to work there. Eventually, once you have enough, show it to HR or the higher management. It can't be ignored.

I agree because while my boss is always on my side, she doesn't do anything about it because she's afraid of her.
