I Have Written a Short Story
Apologies in advance......I do like a bit of gore. 😱
THE BLACK SHADOW
As the dishwasher announced that its cycle was completed, the ominous, shrill sound assaulted my ears. Rubbing my throbbing temple with my finger-tips, I rose from the chair, knowing that the only thing that would release me from this torture, was to open the thing up.
The sauna-like steam scalded my face and instinct instructed me to take a step backwards. Gingerly, I pulled the appliance’s lower jaw forward to allow it the release it needed. Plates, a jug, a cutlery drawer, all needing a few minutes’ respite before being handled.
I filled the kettle up and flicked the switch, feeling that perhaps some liquid refreshment would cure this aching head of mine. Heading back to the dishwasher, I leant forward and reached for a mug, just as a black shadow leapt from its resting point. Startled, I fell forward towards the cutlery basket and gasped as the honed vegetable knife punctured my skin and sliced accurately through my now exposed aorta. Volcanic blood erupted from within, decorating the crockery that lay before me. As the plasma drained from my twitching body, I was aware of the feline shadow purring, whilst licking my face and I realised, that at last, my headache had gone….
