I don't think black and white are ethnicities?
Andrew19EightyFive · 36-40, M
@Angel92 I think it counts, but could be more specific: for instance, from what part/s of Europe and Africa.
Angel92 · 31-35, F
No black and white are races. An ethnic background would be like Irish or German
Andrew19EightyFive · 36-40, M
@Angel92 "pertaining to or characteristic of a people, especially a group (ethnic group) sharing a common and distinctive culture, religion, language, or the like."

Or if you don't no your actual ethnic background you can say American or English or any other nationality. I mean idc, but nationality and ethnicities are how I believe people should identify, it breaks down racial barriers. But I guess people can identify how they want, ethnicity is very much semantics
Angel92 · 31-35, F
@Andrew19EightyFive whites and blacks all over don't all share the same language or culture so......
Andrew19EightyFive · 36-40, M
@Angel92 Even if you can identify 'Italian' or 'German', those ancestors were immigrants from somewhere else.
Angel92 · 31-35, F
I don't have the same culture as Africans from Africa or African Americans
Angel92 · 31-35, F
Or the same as Spanish from Columbia
Angel92 · 31-35, F
@Andrew19EightyFive not always true. But ethnic background pertains to the culture you identify with not always relating to ancestry
Angel92 · 31-35, F
My ancestors are from Africa and Spain but that doesn't make my ethnicities Spaniard and African 🤔
Andrew19EightyFive · 36-40, M
@Angel92 Even if you did have the same culture as Africans from Africa, it would likely differ from other African cultures within the same African country/countries.
Andrew19EightyFive · 36-40, M
@Angel92 I can imagine that one can past nationalities of ancestors as part of one's overall ethnicity as opposed to only referring to one's specific culture as that falls within a particular country/nation.
Angel92 · 31-35, F
i agree. That's why I specified and said Jamaican and Cuban in reality, my ethnic background would be Carribean but I know that carribeans all over don't share the same cultural background. That's exactly my point white and black are not ethnic backgrounds.
Angel92 · 31-35, F
But like I said it's a bunch of semantics
