I am not sure if I did really, Peter, my bottom would be really sore and stinging that I always thought it was unfair and I did not deserve it.

@shirleym56 Yeah, always insult to injury when I was spanked even though I didn't think I deserved a spanking.....when my stepmom decided I deserved to get spanked, that was that!

@shirleym56 The serious pain of a firm spanking always made me feel wronged. After all, even before the strokes began, I was apologetic and remorseful. Adults always dismissed this as being "sorry that you were caught" or even more cynically, "Not as sorry as you are soon going to be!"

In looking back on it (or in retrospect) a much greater effort could have been made to explain the justice involved.

Right. So far as learning a moral lesson, the symbolism and ritual do the teaching. Agony tends to undo the learning.

Agreed. I suspect we are in the minority with that opinion.

Well, I like the description "demonstrative speech." Hard enough to make a point but not the agony inducing full force clobbering that a lot of spankers here tend to recommend.

Makes me wonder if part of the reason people go full force is because THEY need to feel powerful. It then becomes less punishment more power trip.
