@JoBlak In my experience, having being caned through trousers, just knicker and bare, trousers make no difference to the sting.

@JoBlak Our gym mistress often slippered groups in a line like that. She'd go along multiple time giving each of us two whacks each time. We all had to stay in position until she'd finished slippering all of us. Anyone to stood up early got extra.

@isabelrider No - the skirt would have been folded back by the head and I would have been caned on my knickers so I would have had less protection

@Alfred22 The sting didn't last that long - just the marks. I don't think being the first girl to be caned over trousers was a big issue

As much "fun" as we all have here recounting our adventures, we should admit that canings and firm paddlings did cause damage to our rears and that even as young as we were, time is required for the relevant biological repair processes. A week for full recovery from your six is perfectly reasonable.

Did you ever get "gated" and feel one of the infamous diagonal strokes?

@Pop0159 Once, but only once, I wore gabardine slacks to my boys' club meeting. The slacks were, at the time, "cool" or in fashion. But, as luck would have it, I was caught up in a group or collective punishment. The leaders could not determine a guilty member so we all got it. Gabardine, whatever it was/is, seemed to work like the girls all claimed nylon works, namely it enhanced the sting of the strap. From then on I wore regulation thick olive drab khakis -- much less cool, as it were.

Hmmm. I meant "sadistic" in its true, erotic sense, but the idea of adding extra strokes for something as pathetic as forgetting to say "thank you" for having already been given some bizarrely default number of strokes, is at least ludicrous.

Of the two or three canings I heard about at my school, I think the worst was four strokes. I heard of that from a mutual friend who'd been one of a few to whom the victim had shown the results. I don't know, or forget, what it was for.

However, at least you were able to recover in an eminently suitable and enjoyable way!

I ought add I oppose real CP but have no qualms at all about adult, consensual CP play; although I would have to be introduced gently to the cane!

@ArishMell There seemed to be two types of school when I went to school. Those who only used the cane etc for serious offences and those who used it liberally. My school fell into the latter sadly for me. The norm for a caning was usually six strokes because minor offences were usually dealt with by the classroom teacher and the slipper.

My impression too. Our PE teacher used the plimsoll but only very occasionally - the threat was there but rarely carried out, suggesting it was rather better as a deterrent than its gratuitous use would have been.

I have often wondered where and when this "norm" of six strokes, apparently totally irrespective of offence, originated. Others have asked too. The "of the best" suffix may be from Jimmy Edwards' comedy role as an inept Headmaster in his 1960s radio and TV shows, but I have seen it referenced in 1950s fiction set in equally mediocre boys' schools, suggesting it was already entrenched practice or tradition.
