Is tomato, a fruit or vegetable?

hunkalove · 61-69, M
Fruit, but the US government classifies it as a vegetable. Back in the 80s, the Reagan administration classified ketchup as a vegetable!

classified as a fruit but used as a veggie most times. My grandpa's second wife offered me a bowl of cooked tomatoes with sugar sprinkled on them for a snack and I was first puzzled by it but ate them and they were good...this was back in the 60's and apparently an old fashioned treat when she was younger.

@SW-User Yes, it's the seed pod. My point was that it's not a matter or either or. A fruit is part of a vegetable. What the layman calls a vegetable is usually the parts that aren't fruits. Even seeds (e.g nuts, peas and beans) are often called vegetables.

Better to classify it as fruitable .. and bring mango under it .. so this question does not arise ...

its smart to know its a fruit.. but its wise not to put it into a fruit salad
