I Love to Write Fiction
"You poor foolish man," he heard her say.
He knew she wasn't there for she had said goodbye to him many years ago. He knew his end was near and he felt the effort in his ragged breathing.
"Look at me, you stubborn man," the voice said in an worried tone.
He opened his eyes and he saw her there at the foot of the bed. She seemed to glow with light in his bleary eyes. He wheezed with surprise and she moved to his side.
With tears in her eyes said said, "I didn't know you waited for me. It wasn't necessary as you knew I couldn't come to you."
His hand twitch as he failed to move it, and he was so grateful when she laid her hand on his. He felt her warmth and hoped that she felt his heart sending her all his stored love in the moment.
Then his strength flooded back to him and he sat up and swung his legs to the floor. He stood and wrapped his arms around her in a hug, and squeezed her so tightly.
"So many times I've wanted to be hugged by you like you promised," she whispered. "We've time for one kiss my dear."
With that incentive he needed no further urging and bending his lips to hers he kissed those lips that he had imagined for so many long years. He felt the years fall from his ancient frame and renewed life surge through him.
"Follow me," she said with a smile. "You're going to like this."
The two left the room leaving only a screaming monitor and an abandoned husk on the bed.
