These lyrics come from Johnny Cash's Ragged Old Flag written in 1974. During a troubled time in our country's history with Watergate and Vietnam on everyone's minds. But his lyrics, especially the last verse, can certainly still apply to us today.
"So we raise her up every morning, And we bring her down slow every night, We don't let her touch the ground, And we fold her up right. On second thought, I DO like to brag, Cause I'm mighty proud of That Ragged Old Flag."
LOVE Johnny! I grew up in the south on his music along with all the other country music legends. My youngest daughter was born on "flag day!" Great post, thanks for sharing. 💓
Thanks, sweetpea. Yes, the country music greats were some incredible artists and put out some wonderful songs. I don't see that much patriotism in songs today either.
Thanks for posting this. It's a good reminder that our flag, and our country, has been through a lot, but it's still here and hopefully will be for a long time to come.
