@Glasambyth1878, Katahkin took us about 11 horus round trip .. my cousin is also a cyclist and swimmer and she went with me. We kept a steady pace and didn't stop much. We have found in the past it's better not to sit and rest but stay standing, take a drink, and eat samll amounts as we go. We were in pretty shape and it wasn't too bad . ... Katahdin is often socked in with clouds .. so you have to watch the weather.
@JQuest7575 - If you read Bill Bryson's book, the 100 mile wilderness is very wet, having you cross a lot streams .. in fact that part of Maine has a lot of wet areas . . . I think in his book, he and his partner would strip naked and carry their packs over their heads ... the warnings are probably right about having food for ten days ..
If you have the time to do the AT, then go for it ...
