I Write Short Stories

Standing in the dark Audrey paused before reaching for the door. The voices in her mind cleared their thoats to begin thier familiar tune of doubt and fear.
"Hush", she whispered. "Not this time."
What lay ahead for Audrey was waiting on the other side of that door. She had been to it's threshold many times before never to cross through.
"Not this time". she spoke again.
As the door slowly opened a soft light began to bathe her face. A warmth from the room ahead reaching her just as the doubt began to return.
Drawing breath became a labor as something in the room stirred.
Closing her eyes tightly, Audrey stepped inside ...

"Patches"


The venetian blinds turned and opened up, allowing patches of light to flood in. She allowed it to bathe her face with the warmth as the evening sun settled in, she was pleased with what she felt.
Pleased with her determination, her decision made, she opened up the door to the outside. Babysteps, she thought to herself.
The first time in 6 months that the outside light had been allowed to mingle with the darkness in her home. She stepped through the doorway, to the outside world, and thoughts of the past haunted her, yet she couldn't turn back. It was time to face her fears, it was time to allow more than patches of light to touch her skin.
