I Have a Phobia of Needles

My phobia of needles is influenced by extreme pain sensitivity and PTSD from going to hospital every month for operations when i was little.

Aversion or actual phobia?

Lots of clinicians can give almost painless injections

You could ask them to use Elma cream
Or spray with topical ethyl cholride to numb the area first

@yeronlyman EMLA cream doesnt work for me, and the topical is not enough

@Alanuin are they injecting intramuscular or skin or drawing blood?
Alanuin · 36-40, F
all of the above

@Alanuin you could try TENS

Avoiding tender area in the muscle when injecting can make it easier and can avoid the nociceptors (pain receptors)
Injecting is safe and very little harm can be done when’s one right

because of my syndrome i was born with my nociceptors are in different places, they proved that when i went to the dentist to get a tooth pulled.

Dialysis for kidney failure, specifically HEMODIALYSIS they stick a huge needle in your arm, in a different place each time, so that is even more painful.

That is a sample of my fear, but i cant even look or i will faint.

There is more too it for me, but i cant explain.

@Alanuin how do you mean your nociceptors are in a different place?
Not sure I’ve heard of that

Respect
Alanuin · 36-40, F
they are nerves basically.
yeronlyman · 51-55, M
@Alanuin an I know what nociceptors, but not sure what you meant by in a different place

It’s sounds like you have some form of allodynia, central sensitisation
Alanuin · 36-40, F
my genes have been malformed
