You said: "This stability and dependability is an impression I've painstakingly cultivated over the years and one that serves me well" ... "when I'm falling apart, nobody notices! Nobody asks how I'm doing". CTStranger, that's like trying to have your cake and eat it too and it seems to me that you realize that. You created a wall around you, for whatever reason, to keep people away including a best friend or confidant and you need at least one but if you want a friend you have to be one first. Not trusting anyone with our true feelings is one way to avoid getting hurt but often to achieve something we have to take risks ... that's life

Hugs freely given K!!
@JVC ... I think people see what they want to see. It's hard to see your friends suffering so you tend to try not to notice their pain.
@GD ... I think you got it spot on ... Asking for help is a foreign concept. I did it once and the reaction (from my Mum as it happens) was so shocking that I will never do it again!

ctstranger: still offering your shoulder when you're the one needing one! Haha, I understand that all too well. Thank you, my shoulder's also open to you😋

I've often suffered this too. Who helps the helper? I've often been so independent and self-reliant that nobody would ever consider I need anything. In both our cases, maybe we need to ask for help, like our friends do. Although, I guess with this question, you already did.

I can relate. It's nice that people see you as reliable and stuff but whenever I start talking about what's bothering me, they just look at me blankly. It does suck being the strong and dependable one sometimes... No one really wants to look at you during your weak moments.

I'm sorry you're not having a good time right now, I hope you feel better soon.... Hugs 😊

i dont tell people how i feel or whats going on in my life. they think every thing is good and i am so lucky. If only they knew the truth

@Kalanialex ... It's more that I don't want to burden my friends. But you make a good point! Thank you!
