I Take Responsibility For My Actions

I strongly believe in taking responsibility for one's own actions. The harsh truth is that nobody ever made me do anything. I chose to do it, I weighed the costs and benefits in my mind and I chose to do it. Yes, there were circumstances that led up to it, yes there were factors that influenced me and shaped me. When it comes down to the moment where I acted, I acted upon my own decision.

So often in today's society we want to blame someone else for our screw ups and our failures. So often we want to point the fingers and be spared the consequences of our own actions. But we are responsible for our actions and decisions.

It is my fault and my fault alone that I got a bad grade in that one course. It doesn't matter whether the prof was good or bad. I could have asked him for more help, I could have found other resources, I could have read the textbook and better learned the material.

It is so easy to find excuses to explain why I wasn't able to achieve, reasons why I was at a disadvantage. But real change only happens when I take ownership for every aspect of my life. When I understand that I have the power to succeed or fail and the difference is in my focus and my work and my non negotiable understanding that at the end of the day, I am in control of my life.

Are they really forcing you though? They can convince, they can even try to manipulate you, but in the end the reality is that you made the choice.
