I Want You To Listen To This Song

This is a song that a dear person from real life introduced me to earlier this week called “Langtree’s Lament” from a new Cartoon Network show titled “Over the Garden Wall”. The show tells of the adventures that two half brothers go through while they are trying to find their way home. The older brother, named Wirt, is more practical and wears an elf/gnome outfit, and the younger brother, named Greg, is more happy-go-lucky and whimsical, wearing an upside-down teapot as a hat! I personally could pick up on references to Alice in Wonderland, Lord of the Rings, and maybe even the Chronicles of Narnia, but I’ll leave that for you to decide! I would classify this as a mid-fantasy show.
Upon first seeing clips of it, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and truly kid-friendly it was!
The song “Langtree’s Lament” is sung by a well-meaning young school teacher named Ms. Langtree. However, in singing this song, she exposes how insecure she is to her class of animals wearing clothing (like Peter Rabbit!) because a man who she was interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with (named Jimmy B.) left her unexpectedly for reasons that she has no idea why.
The most creative thing about this song is how the alphabet and numbers are used in it to communicate Ms. Langtree’s feelings, such as, “A is for the apple that he gave to me, but I found a worm inside... G is for the gentleman I thought he was, when he first said “Hi” H-I!”. :) I absolutely love the upbeat and happy tune, and it has a summery feel to it. I do feel sympathy for this character, and even though I have never had a boyfriend, at least I have been saved from such a situation that she has to encounter in this show!

Thank you so much for dealing with my rambling-on, though I truly hope that I described the show and the song well enough for you to enjoy! Please let me know what you think! 🎶
