Me too so did my dad and many of his generation and I am not religious .

Spare the rod spoil the child doesn't mean literal definition to many. I know a few parents that rarely use it on their kids. My mom and step dad chose to use the belt on is older kids and a spoon on the lil ones. Some say a spoon that's wrong only hand actually a light spoon stings less

@codrin yep though my 14 year old sister was the more stubborn child. she tended to and still does get in trouble alot more out of us older kids. but my oldest stepsister can be very stubborn and has a mouth on her.

Cosreal im sorry to hear that every denomination including amish and mennonites will have people that act weird.

@ ArtieKat In my opinion the choice of the implement is a problem of tradition, I.e in my country the switch is used, but it is effective only on the bare skin. The belt is by far more used (being an implement at the hand) while a rod is not too easy to find in an urban area.

I'm English, SassyGirl. During the era in which I grew up the ultimate sanction at school, certainly, was corporal punishment - specifically the cane. The threat alone was an effective deterrent.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
@artiekat you dont sound brutal and discipline is best early. some say you shouldnt discipline small children my youngest siblings are both 2 and both get spanked.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
artiekat as it here to many. also english doesnt refer to english from england. it refers to nonmembers of our denomination. no matter their heritage.

Good for you. I also consider that the belt worked as a good warning signal for me and helped me not to step aside too often.

I have Mennonite friends. Lots of tales of getting the belt. Are you old Mennonite or reformed?
ArtieKat · M
@SassyGirl, I'm curious in general about parents' choice of punishment implements. In your religion I presume you believe absolutely in the bible as the word of God, so I'm intrigued by the use of the belt rather than a cane or switch (literally a rod). Is there a simple explanation?
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
no im the oldest.
ArtieKat · M
I hope I don't sound brutal but in my opinion the purpose of corporal punishment is to act as a deterrent. Ever since I was at primary school I've had what I regard as a healthy respect for the cane. The ritual, I think, was as important as the pain.
Mountainlady16 · 22-25, F
ive been trying to figure out how to do that. i never do a face picture but i had one the basic pictures on my ep
ArtieKat · M
@SassyGirl: How old is your stepsister? I'm assuming she gets the belt when she is insolent?
LoveChild · 26-30, F
Old Mennonite are just like Amish, Horse and buggy, no TV or anything. My friends are reformed.
ArtieKat · M
Thanks for the detail - I had wrongly assumed your older stepsister was older than you.
LoveChild · 26-30, F
Add some sort of pic and I'll add you.
