I Love the Work of Antonio Gaudi
Sagrada Familia Is Beautiful... I first discovered Antoni Gaudí in a television documentary in the late 1980s. I was about half asleep and woke up to see these beautiful images of a great basilica that was never finished. The film described how people were criticizing him for his fancy, complicated work, that he was overdoing it and it didn't make any sense. I thought maybe the word "gaudy" came from these criticisms (it doesn't). I wondered how anyone let him get away with designing something like that in the first place, but its very audacity made me feel I couldn't get enough of it.
The more I see of Sagrada Familia the more amazed I am by the care and detail that went into its preparations. He was so devoted to God that he wanted to make sure it was a bit shorter than the nearby mountains. Even so, it is (or will be) the tallest church in the world. Visiting this holy place is on my bucket list.
