overrated narcissist
Withintent · M
@HeteroDox which artist wasn't?
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@HeteroDox Why do you think he's a narcissist? I mean compared to any other artist?
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@AntisocialTroll Psychologically speaking the prank he pulled with destroying the painting at auction screams destructive behaviour for his amusement.
Withintent · M
@HeteroDox and that's also art, beautiful art.
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@Withintent I refuse to feed the trolls - online or in real life
Withintent · M
@HeteroDox who's the troll?
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@HeteroDox I have to say that's not my take it on it. To me it came across as a p!ss take, a form of Trolling the art world, like he was making point about the silly money that is often paid for paintings purely because of who the artist is rather than the actual value of the art itself.
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@Withintent "Banksy"
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@AntisocialTroll then why doesn't he make himself known? whats to prevent others from taking credit?
Withintent · M
@AntisocialTroll I can agree with this and I approve.
Ynotisay · M
@HeteroDox Nah. That was freaking genius. "Girl with Balloon" is now called "Love is in the Bin" and worth more than twice as much as what the buyer paid for it.
Withintent · M
@HeteroDox good question
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@Ynotisay "one born every minute"
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@HeteroDox Why should he? I really respect his wish for anonymity, to me it seems the very opposite of narcissism.
Ynotisay · M
@HeteroDox Nope. You just don't get it. So you slam it. That's pretty clear.
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@AntisocialTroll you cant have it both ways
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@Ynotisay,,, and you clearly congratulate yourself that you do.
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@HeteroDox I'm sorry I genuinely don't get what you mean by that?
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@AntisocialTroll you don't get to enjoy the fame and make statements by destroying your own works. He or she wants people to revel in his or her "brilliance", as long as he doesn't have to be visible
Ynotisay · M
@HeteroDox Nah. I'm not cut that way. But just so you know, that shredder was built in to that painting years prior in case it was ever put up for auction. It was a statement about auctions and, in an interesting twist, doubled the buyers money so no one got screwed. Sorry but that takes some smarts to pull that off.
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@Ynotisay no doubt still congratulating himself, yeah
Ynotisay · M
@HeteroDox Seems to me that the person seeking congratulations and adulation might put themselves in a position to receive that instead of remaining anonymous.
It's ok if people are smarter, more talented and more successful than you, you know? Banksy is an original whose work derives from empathy and fighting for the common good. No need to be threatened by that. We need more of those people.
HeteroDox · 36-40, F
@Ynotisay why do you think i care if its weighed against my own self image? my observation is based on behavioural examination to date, you just apparently want to feel relevant
Ynotisay · M
@HeteroDox Ah. One of those, huh? Yeah baby. I come to insignificant website to feel relevant. Good call. You're special.
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
@HeteroDox We are gonna to have to agree differ on this I think. His moniker has fame, he as an individual person does not. Personally I respect him for it, there is certainly a tradition within some forms of art or craft to deliberately not sign ones work as some people want their work to stand and be judged by the work alone rather than from their "name".

With no disrespect intended to her or him, he's like the opposite of Tracey Emin or Damien Hirst who make millions from their art not because they are really great artists, more because they are like the Kim Kardashians of this world and have great marketing skills rather than truly great art.
