I Have So Many Favorite Things

I have a few things, that I cherish, and have managed to keep with me for many years. One of them is my grandfather's old tackle box. I've never used it for fishing, but it's been my favorite tool box since I was 20.
This last weekend I got it out to hang some curtain rods and as usual, it had everything I needed.
At one point, while trying to find my screwdriver, I felt a sharp pain on my thumb. I didnt see an injury, so I kept to my task.
Well, yesterday at work, I started to feel a pain in my thumb again. This time, my thumb was warm, and starting to swell a bit. I still couldn't see anything, but it hurt. When I got home I put peroxide on it, and there was no fizzing. I got into bed and now it was throbbing., and it never stopped. I kept my hand elevated, got up a few times to soak it in Epsom salt, which would take some of the pain away, but not enough to sleep.
Needless to say, work today was agony. Its amazing how often you use your thumbs to do anything. The slightest tap to my thumb sent shock waves throughout my body. I do a lot of writing at work, and it was almost impossible to write anything legible.
Driving home, the throbbing started all over again, and I was determined to solve the problem tonight. With another good soaking, and some sharp tweezers, I aggressively searched for the culprit. With much sweat, and frustration, I finally found a metal splinter! It was stuck in between my thumb nail and my thumb.
I got it out, and immediately the pain subsided! I'm so excited to go to sleep tonight.
My tool box is still one of my favorite things, but I will forever reach into it with care and patience. I feel like it bit me the other day, and I never want to feel this kind of pain again.
