I Remember When Kids Were Allowed To Be Kids

No matter what they do, if whatever it is, is normal for the age, they should be shown better ways of dealing with their frustrations and anger, but not told they are bad.

I have one great granddaughter who is now ten. She is the only child I have never felt any anger towards, no matter what she does. I don't know why, but there is just something about her.

One day, when she was nearly three, while shopping in a department store, she wanted something she couldn't have, and she had a terrible temper tantrum. Lying on the floor kicking and screaming. I bent close to her ear and said, that looks like fun, and I'd like to join you, but I would get in trouble. Can you wait until we get home, and then we can both have fun? She said sure. Jumped up and away we went. When we got home I reminded her that I had interrupted her tantrum and said if she'd like to continue, that was the time to do so. She got on the floor. Did her kicking and screaming thing, and I got down on the floor, head to head with her. I began kicking and screaming and she stopped. She said, "Nana, what are you doing?" I told her that I was doing what she did.

She asked if that was like follow the leader. I said yes, it was sort of like that. She jumped up and started barking like a dog, meowing like a cat and then all farm animals. Totally forgot why she was crying at the store.

That is a great story. Good for you and your granddaughter.

@SweetMae: thanks. She is easy to love. Easy to deal with, even when she is in a "mood".

Wow, that's awesome!

@sarabee1995: thanks. She is an awesome kid. Sweet and funny. She used to hide on me when I'd visit and pretend she couldn't hear me calling her. One day I'd been shopping and bought her a few new outfits. I guess she was about three-ish. I went to visit and naturally she hid. That day, she was visible from the front door, but I pretended not to see her. Instead, I went and stood right beside the table she was under and asked her mom Where is my Lizzie? Mom said she had no idea. I said it was really too bad she wasn't around because I had some new clothes and was hoping to have a fashion show. She popped up and said Fashion show? I'm right here Nana. I want a fashion show. So we had a fashion show, and we were both happy.
