I Have A Job Interview

The interview is this week. They called today to " ask questions about the position". I didn't recognize the number and don't usually answer my phone but decided to. She asked me 3 of those "name a time when..." questions. I was nervous but apparently I did okay since I got an interview. Was not expecting those questions at all. I was literally sweating. I asked her to skip a question and it was the last question so I held the phone feeling stupid trying to think of an answer to "name a time when you had to set a boundary with someone". I tried to buy myself time by asking her a "boundary with who? A coworker, a customer?"

I think they wanted to see if you could think on your feet. There are no right answers, just gauging your response. They use question they know you couldn't have planned for in advance. They want to see your problem solving skills under pressure. You obviously made an impression since you got an interview.

@lasergraph But I feel like I sounded so stupid though.

@iamnikki No one is prepared for those kind of questions. You must have given them what they were looking for. It is like you are on the witness stand, and only can give yes or no answers. They ask if you still beat your spouse. Even if you never beat your spouse, if you answer no it is assumed that you at one time did.
