I Think Being Nice Is Important

Am I nice person?
Are any of us nice? Or do we choose to be that way? The human condition has proved time and again that we as people can be prone to do some pretty terrible things in the name of getting what we want. We can have mean, contemptuous, and even murderous ideas that might never make it out of our head or lips, but exist as a consistent thought towards people or situations.
So no, I am not a nice person in my rawest organic form. I want money I didn't earn, I want a lover I can't have, and I want a life that is free of anything unpleasant...and if that means sacrificing others in various ways to get it then so be it.
That is however, not who I am. I instead choose one path instead of the other. I fight for every penny I have right now, and know that my lover will come along in his own time. It's not for me to demand or control or manipulate to my own desires. Call it common sense, call it logic or morality. Perhaps it is all three but I choose daily to be a nice person. I choose to show kindness and compassion where possible. I don't always do it perfectly but I do it anyway. We naturally default to our primitive natures and our minds steer us away and tell us to think again. Nevertheless, we cannot completely abandon that primitive side because it is where our passions stem. It makes us excited and creative and alive. We therefore balance our light and our dark, our goodness and evil and accept that we choose to be nice (when possible) because the opposite is misery and chaos. To make the choice is hard...sometimes it's the hardest damn thing we do, but we do it anyway, and from it we grow.
