I Am A Christian But Im Not Perfect

I have been struggling with my place in Christ for the last couple of years...Truth is that I want to live a godly life but I haven't got a clue as to what that looks like yet. I believe that I have a form of godliness but I am still struggling with love for material possessions, and the love of money as that is all that I dream about, and for the most part it's getting boreing, I'm the type who wouldn't be satisfied with winning the lottery, no my greed wants me to win it 10 times, and having everything is never enough when I do have money I spend it all on having more clothes, I am never satisfied I gotta have it all.And where does this fall into place of being a Christian? It doesn't for I am out of God's will seeking pleasures rather than doing something good with my money.

:) well at least you're honest

Jesus never taught that there is anything wrong with money per se -just that the pursuit of riches will not bring fulfillment or happiness -in fact the possessions we own can end up owning us

i think this may be why Jesus said it is harder for a rich man to get into heaven than a camel to pass through the eye of a needle

You can't take material possessions with you

The great side of what Jesus taught is that we are safe and secure and loved as we are

So rather than chasing after material possessions to fill an insatiable hole -joy and fulfillment are available for us right here and now -if we only let go of mental and physical "stuff" and accept God's love -allowing it to work in us and through us :-)

SaintSong both in Jewish spiritual tradition and in the nondenominational approach called NonViolent Communication (NVC), there is this idea that all of our desires are rooted in something good. They just get distorted, but with God's help we can sometimes untwist them back to their source. So like the fantasies and the overspending might have to do with wanting connection with others, or pleasure in life, or a feeling of energy and aliveness... just for example... all good God-given impulses and needs that you could find more positive ways to express.

SaintSong: We are all sinners. That's why Christ died for our sins, because God knew that we'd all be fucked if He didn't do something to save us all. We are, by nature now after Eden, all sinful little bitches; even when we're trying to make things right with God.

The fundamental lesson that the Gospels teach us is this: Believe, in what you believe in. I'll leave you with this:

"With faith the size of a mustard seed, you can tell this mountain to be removed from here to sea, and it will be done."

@SaintSong: Don't sweat it and turn your eyes towards Him. Our best efforts are as filthy rags and every one of us needs forgiveness. Remember God is Love and He loves you! Just keep striving to do as He would have you do.

Do you think this desire for money is rooted in something deeper? Perhaps there is a spiritual dimension to this greed in itself.
