I Am a Sister
I saw my brothers for a little while today. I almost never do. For one, they're the youngest (12 and 10). They're also insufferable brats. They steal and bully and have other problems I can't really explain without being mean. I don't want to do that.
It's my dad's influence on them. He plays a lot of mind games. One is always the favorite while the other is hated. Then he switches. He always has to be cruel to one and he pits them against one another. The girls have all figured it out. I told them to stop falling for that crap and just stick together, support each other. In my family, sisters are the strongest. The boys don't listen. They are turning into exactly what our dad intends them to.
Something I learned from watching my family's interactions is that it doesn't matter how many other influences there are in a boy's life; he's always looking to his father figure.
I can't help them much. My only idea now is to get them into activities where they'll have a positive male influence. Sports? A coach could work. Having a team and goals, learning to work together...can't those help them turn around? Nothing else anyone has tried is working. I don't want my brothers ending up incapable of functioning in society. That's all.
