Oh look a light dusting. I have to drive 6 hours today in strong winds and 30 cm of fresh snow.

Oh dear. Have a good safe journey . @hippyjoe1955

@Julienne Made it safe and sound. Lots of others stayed home rather than travel but I made it all the way there and all the way back. Quite a pleasant drive actually as I was able to skirt the north edge of the storm while the others were in the centre of it and couldn't see the front of their cars from the driver's seat.

Awesome and smart move. Wouldn't want to be in the middle of the storm myself either and go where no cars go.
Well done!

@Julienne Yes and hard enough that you can very comfortably walk on top of it without fear of breaking through. Great emergency shelter if you are ever stranded though. Dig a hole in the leeward side of the drift and crawl inside. Instant igloo.

Oh wow. I saw a couple doing that in the news. They were avoiding blizzards. Better to walk on hard snow than ice. A dog fell thru. Got rescued. A different man went on ice and fell in. Sadly he died.

@Julienne Yes ice can be dangerous. Of course we do have ice roads that we can drive on. When the rivers and lakes freeze hard enough the department of highways opens them for driving. Speed and weight is carefully monitored since you can't drive too fast on the ice or it will break and you will go into the water and drown/freeze to death.

Didnt know that was possible! 😱 thats amazing.
A lady (an actress) bought a sled for her and her kid to slide on the snow hill. Next thing she badly broken her leg. Was in so much pains. She had to have an op to a get stent and pins in her leg.
Broke how? She stood UP on the sled as if it was a snowboard!

@Julienne When the ice is 3 feet thick it can easily hold up a large truck fully loaded. My friend used to haul loads up north and drive for hours on the river hauling 90,000 lbs of freight at a time.

Oh my gosh. YeahI've seen a prog abt drivers trucking thru ice and how they managed it. Scary journey!

@Julienne My friend loved it. He used to have a pet raven that would fly along side his rig and steal food out of his hand if he rolled down the window and held the food out for the bird. Of course the raven was actually wild but it had learned that if it flew close to a big truck the driver would feed it. My friend heard about the bird and on his first trip on a new road he noticed it flying about a foot away from his door window. He held out a partially eaten sandwich and the bird grabbed it and flew away. After that every time he drove that stretch of ice road the bird would come for food.

Awwww! Thats so sweet! Those ravens are very clever Lol I'd love to do that😊
They should film it and Internet it too
