When I was there, prices were dirt cheap by United States standards.
At first, while student teaching, the school was by the Santana Norte and I rented from the school's receptionist's parents in San Francisco de Tres Rios, a suburb of San Jose.
When I later taught full-time at a different school, I lived on a finca in Purral de Guadeloupe - changing buses at both Parque Morazon and Parque Central in San Jose on my way into school.
Spent one night sleeping with some friends on top of Volcan Irazu - this was 1975, and it had last erupted in 1964. Also visited Volcan Poas and Vulcan Arsenal at different times.
14 of the teachers and I rented a cottage on a private beach down at Quepos when school was out for a week for Samanta Santa. I'm sure I screwed up the spelling there.
Had a great time. I am married now and need to take my wife there someday soon - we're not getting any younger - and show her around.
My wife's grandfather was from Cornwall and came to work in the copper mines in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She has gone over there nine times to do genealogy, plus she lived in London for a year and worked in the British health system.
We are going to England in mid-February, and she is going to show me around. I need to do the same thing for her in Costa Rica.
Enjoy your day!
