I Am A Doomsday Prepper

I actually found out a fellow prepper works in my department, so as we conversed about wood fired water tanks my usual lunch buddy had said "this is like a game to y'all?" He compared it to the people who get obsessed with tv like game of thrones or the walking dead. I'm beginning to believe a lot of people who are not of the survival mindset have just never been forced into those situations.

I used to know a prepper. He had hundreds of pounds of longterm storage food. But, it all still had an expiration date. What do you do with all that stock when it's no good anymore?

@SooperSarah I'm going to start with I don't have that kind of quantity. Hundreds of pounds is expensive. My freeze dried has an expiration date of 30 yrs from now. However you are supposed to eat and replace your preps. Food rotation like grocery stores organize by date. dried rice and dried beans SEALED and in food grade buckets I usually keep 2 years max.
@Powderflask I see. He had a giant underground shelter built. I just remember seeing all the dried beans had the same date on them, and it wasn't that far away.

@SooperSarah I disagree with an underground shelter, I do have an underground pantry, typically called a root cellar. It's an ancient technique ppl used to keep vegetables and food longer before refrigeration.
@Powderflask if I remember correctly it was two shipping containers, one of which was mostly used for storage. He had air conditioning and an air filtration system built into it and everything.

@SooperSarah Nice, I'll admit I'm a bit jealous. I prep on a budget.
