I Block

A lot! There are 2 basic reason I block: the first is when someone has been ostentatious about his weird lifestyle. The other is when I've been caused great offence or the apprehension of offence. So nastiness, hate, bigotry and demagoguery earns a spot on my block list. But one thing I do *not* do is hit-and-run. No, I take a dim view of those who take a cheap shot at someone then block. When I make a decision to block, I just do it--no parting shots.
But there's a certain side benefit to reducing someone's ability to harass you. There's a certain... class of EPper that is frequently the worst of the bigots. They think they can afford to hate and defame and insult and throughout, carrying the most unbelievable hypocrisy. By blocking such people, I also avoid the temptation to correct them. I think this class of person will be brought down by the weight of their own iniquity. I think it's good that they feel they can afford to behave like mindless animals, and be able to keep their credibility. If I start correcting them, they might come to realize that they can go too far, and will refine their strategy, and thereby become more effective.

I'm with you. I see nothing wrong with blocking and frankly don't understand those who blame and shame others who do. I mean...to each his/her own, right? Blocking puts the locus of control in my own hands. Sometimes when I report something, that person gets blocked vicariously. Other times it is when someone has regressed to the point of name-calling while in a debate and blocking them not only sends the message that I will not tolerate such, but also prevents me from being subjected to yet more attacks. But if people feel it's better not to block--fine. But I feel like it's better TO block at times (which I feel should be equally as fine).

So much debate on the internet. Much of it is moral and everything else is, in a nutshell, just trolling.

I don't mind a debate. But I do mind punches thrown below the belt. And if someone is going to insist on doing it, then I am going to insist on ceasing the conversation.

I hardly block people. I was somehow blocked with no apparent reason. If honesty is a crime and insinuating my point of view is a great offense, so be it.
I always try to understand behavior but I steer away from malicious intention.
We have different defence mechanisms that we need to varying degrees. If I didn't block, it would be worse for both parties

I understand.

I don't block people because no one ever talks to me anyway :(
