I Dont Make Friends Easy

I've been told I need to open up to my coworkers more.
I don't really talk to them unless it's work related and I never go out with them.
It's not that I don't like them or have something against them it's just that. . . They gossip...a lot about everyone.incluiding each other so I don't wanna be part of that or let them know about my life.
Have you ever been in a similar situation?

Of course.. most people do gossip. It can make you feel like you are on the "in" with someone by participating. Of course, logic should warn you that if they are gossiping to you about someone else, they will gossip about you to others. However, if you simply change the subject when they gossip, my experience is that you gain respect instead of losing friends. Good luck.. making friends with coworkers can be an awkward business.
