I Love a Good Quote

“Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
I'm not very religious, but whenever someone corrects me and calls me a bad person, I think of this. Which actually makes us all hypocrites, don't ya think?
Note that there's a difference between a constructive critique and correcting people to comply with social norms. Just because something is expected, it doesn't justify someone's behaviour.

JESUS: “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
(a single stone comes flying at the woman)
JESUS: “Stop it, Mom!"
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@Melpomene Not if done without malice or ill intent.

@DragonFruit Why do you usually throw stones at someone?
@DragonFruit I love it ! 😂

To see ones own failings and hold back on judgment of another is wise.

The thing is He is the only one present,according to Christian beliefs, that could have condemend her, but he chooses mercy instead.

If you read the New Testament often you start to realize He condemend the religious leaders much more than "sinners"
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@SW-User Because they were abusing their power, thinking they're better than "sinners" while sinners were aware they sin and they asked for forgiveness?
SW-User
@Melpomene Yes, exactly.
The Christian Right has forgotten that reference.
It’s all about having a superior moral and political position. It is unfortunate.
There is a cross section of the population that see life in a very simple way.
Unfortunately, life has never been that easy.
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@Texasgurl Life wasn't supposed to be easy.

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

So that makes me the biggest sinner of all, so I think you're doing very good, not a bad person at all...

Just to let you know that verse wasn't in the bible the way it was originally written. The parts of john 8 were added by one of the copiers.
That's a very keen observation. And, I think you're right.

This expression comes from the Bible, John 8:7. In this part of the Bible, many people want to throw stones at a woman. She was accused of adultery. The crowd wants to kill her and punish her for this sin.

Jesus tells them that the person who has no sins should be the first to throw a stone. Of course, everyone has sinned, so no one can throw any stones.
