Fried Jalapenos

So I ordered fried jalapenos from the good Mexican place near me last night. I was thinking I'd be getting slices of jalapeno that were breaded and deep-fried, like most things here in America with "fried" in the title. Instead, I got three whole peppers that were sauteed in a pan, and served atop a bed of onions, and shoved in a takeout container.

It was still good, and qualifies as what I ordered - just wasn't what I was expecting. What things have you ordered that weren't quite what you expected when they arrived?

Oh, I just thought of a couple...

In highschool I moved to an Italian area

They sometimes would offer "pizza" for this or that... the "pizza" didn't always have any cheese. A cheese-less, topping-less pizza. I'm sorry folks but I call the tomato pie at best... An actual pizza needs some toppings of some sort.

Also, some of the sports parents "garlic knots", which I had absolutely no idea what that's were, but teammates got all excited. Tried them, oh my they were absolutely addicting! We'd eat them until we got sick... and then get better and go right back to eating them. I've tried many commercial garlic knots since, and they completely suck compared to what these moms made.

====================

Now where I live, they sometimes offer "BBQ" for this or that... the "BBQ" is sometimes chicken bbq, which I find acceptable to call BBQ, but usually it seems to be what's more commonly known as sloppy joes. Don't get me wrong, sloppy joes are delicious, and I'm certainly not complaining about them being offered. But simply put, they're simply not Bone of the many styles of BBQ (imo). Still good, but we need to stop calling that BBQ...

And yes, I realize all over America they call different things called BBQ, but generally speaking, all of them involve meat that can go on a grill. Be and not ground up, liquidy meat.

@Viper The first one is definitely tomato pie. Good on its own, and best served cold or room temperature at most, it's somewhat popular around here. Definitely not a pizza though. Similar, but not the same.

I actually like the commercial garlic knots. Obviously I haven't these amazing ones, but the pizza shops in my town deep fry them for some reason, and they're just really greasy and soaked in garlic butter. Like, you pick one up and it drips out.

Totally agreed on BBQ. It's meat that has been grilled, or smoked, or slow-cooked to perfection, and the sauce is a compliment, not a defining feature. Sloppy Joe's are definitely not barbecue, and anyone who says it is, is wrong.

@FaeLuna Yes that's was probably my biggest problem (other than feeling mislead and missing the cheese which is amazing), but a tomato pie, I preferred cool (which is rare for me, I usually prefer things warm), where if it's pizza, I want it warm.

Commercial garlic knots aren't bad, but they're also not close to addictingly good status. Like my senior year I started seeing those things as evil, because it was hard to pace yourself lol. They were much much smaller knots,a lot less air in them than the commercial ones (like they were so different, I think one could argue they should have different names), but the ingredients were all the same, also they were loaded with salt and other stuff, but fit was like the perfect combo. And it wasn't just salt, I really wish I learned what other spices they had on that thing.
