Why do I stay when he consistently beats the heck outta me?
He could be having a bad day at work and literally comes home and smashes my face in. It gets really overwhelming and I want to leave but I'm scared what he'll do if I tried.

You need to get out ASAP and report this to his superiors. It doesn't matter how respected he is. Many people may secretly envy him and that envy can be used to your advantage if you share dirt about him. I'm sure everyone would love to know that he's not so perfect after all and gloat about it. You MUST report this to his superiors so they know what's going on and can keep a tab on where he goes and what he does. Also, if he ends up stalking you, you can call his superiors or the emergency line and they can deal with it perhaps with the knowledge of the background. Just because he's a cop doesn't mean he's above the law.
