Why do I stay when he consistently beats the heck outta me?
He could be having a bad day at work and literally comes home and smashes my face in. It gets really overwhelming and I want to leave but I'm scared what he'll do if I tried.

I have seen many cases like this on TV and especially when the abuser is a cop it's very very very difficult to obtain protection and understand what you mean that no one will believe you and if you ran away from home I am assuming you don't have much family to help.
If you leave you must never let him know where you are never contact him again do not use social media, do not go anywhere that he will predict that you will go and I know that since hes a cop he has other methods to look you up.
Everyone else is correct that you should contact authorities report him I know this may anger him but you have to in order to potentially build a case in the future.
Contact women's advocacy groups they may have more ideas about how you can stay protected
